How do you add a gradient to text in photoshop?

Is there any way to do it without using the gradient overlay? I just want to make by text a gradient color. How do you add a gradient to text in photoshop?
There are a few ways to do it, but here's one:

1) rasterize the text layer

2) select the text only (hold option + click on thumbnail in layer window) or use magic wand tool

3) using your gradient tool, fill in the selected text layer with a gradient

If you didn't want to rasterize your text, then sorry! How do you add a gradient to text in photoshop?
You dont need to raterize. The Best way to apply Gradient to a TEXT is to open your layer window [F7 ]%26gt; right click the text layer %26gt; choose blending options %26gt; Gradient %26gt; Choose your gradient.

It will become a blending property and your text will still be editable.
